In China, the art of making oneself beautiful is much more than a ritual—it is an art of metamorphosis. In the radiance of a flaming red, a veil of rice powder, the intensity of an eye, an enhanced version of the self emerges. Moon Tale pays tribute to this refined heritage by taking inspiration from the legend of the Four Beauties, one of whom, it is said, eclipsed the moon with her grace. Jacques Cavallier Belletrud thus imagined an olfactory interpretation. Like a sweep of lipstick on the skin, a bright burst of raspberry and peony, opens the composition. It reveals a radiant bouquet of China's most beautiful flowers: vivid geranium and silky jasmine sambac are exalted by the fruity freshness of magnolia. For the base, musks impart an ethereal, powdery veil with cosmetic accents. A perfume that’s like a final touch before stepping into a spotlight in the vibrant energy of the night.

Moon Tale is part of the Journey to China collection, a new destination in Louis Vuitton’s Perfumes of the World. Inspired by China’s legendary art of living, it pays tribute to the refined rituals and emblematic materials in Chinese culture, reinterpreted in the present tense. This collection reveals the full richness of a dialogue that bridges tradition and modernity. For the occasion, the silhouette of the apothecary-style bottle designed by Marc Newson meets the Chinese snuff bottle, an historic art object of timeless refinement. This small bottle, at once functional and precious, resonates with the tradition of the Maison that, since 1854, has brought beauty and utility together in iconic travel objects. The bottle is made of opalescent glass with changing reflections and crowned with a lacquered cap in deep hues. Its chromatic vibration reflects the unique identity of each perfume. Moon Tale’s bottle is dressed in colors inspired by the art of tian-tsui, the Chinese jewelry-making technique of embellishing parures with blue kingfisher feathers and coral.
